Would someone kindly give me an explanation of backstitching?
I inadvertantly asked this question on the wrong forum and got replies regarding needles and thread - ho, ho, ho.
Is it a form of ornamentation that can be thrown in to impress fiddlers, box-players and other lesser mortals?

Try and listen to Mikie Smyth, he’s one of the finest exponents of backstitching… he got it from Andy Conroy notably.

Not “Da” - “Dag”, as in “D’ya like dags?”
As in… “Have ya gan ta tha dags altogedder or wha?” or “Tha’s a quare lookin dag ya have dere misthur!” or “Look at the size a tha b****x on tha dag!”
