back stitch

Ok, i know what back stitching is and i can kinda of do it after looking at mick coyne’s website. My question is can anyone recommend some songs where it would be used, just to give me an idea where it would be implemented.

Thanks,

Ken Rickets on Lark in the Morning, Clips & Snips

That’s a good example.

dem lousy bastiches . . . show 'em who’s da boss

Harvest Home (Cork Hornpipe) is the classic tune, can’t recall a recording of this that doesn’t use backstitching in the b part.
Paddy Keenan plays Sonny Brogan’s Mazurka with an incredible run of backstitching at the end.
In tunes with an upper octave g, f, or e followed by AA, I look for opportunities to play a backstitch as a variation maybe once through the tune.

Listen to Mikie Smyth’s version of Harvest Home- riddled with them thangs

I like ‘em, but as with all embellishments, a little dab’ll do ya’.

Brian McNamara’s two solo albums will also keep you in stitches. Some very tasteful pip’ity pips throughout.

What is a backstitch?

What Ken is doing in the Lark in the Morning (near the ends of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th parts) is something like this:

It’s probably a good idea not to worry about backstitching if you only have a few years playing under your belt.
