On these cold winter days I like to walk in the mall. On Thursday, when I was walking past the store which sells Select Comfort air mattresses, I noticed that the store had no customers, and the manager was sitting at his desk in the back of the room. He was leaning his head against the wall, his eyes were closed, and he had apparently drifted off to sleep. What struck me as hilarious is that just above where he was sitting there was a large store sign painted on the wall which read:
I walked by the Select Comfort store again this afternoon. The manager was awake this time, so I asked him about the PJs. He said that the company was promoting the idea of store clerks wearing pajamas with the company logo. The problem for me would be that the company wants the employees to buy them with their own money. The man I talked to was getting ready for retirement at the end of the year, so there is no way he was going to buy any expensive PJs with the company logo. I realize now that when I thought I saw him sleeping previously, he only had his eyes closed dreaming about retirement in less than a month. He seemed so pleased to be finally able to get out of the mattress store in the mall. I wished him a happy retirement.
With regard to companies requiring their employees to wear uniforms with the company logo, I recently retired from such a company. Although the company did give a uniform allowance to every employee, it was not nearly enough to cover the cost of all of the clothes that were required, especially for women. Just recently that company has merged with another company, and the company logo has changed. I talked to one of my previous co-workers today, and she told me that the company had instructed all of their employees to cut out the old logos from all of their uniforms, which would effectively destroy the clothing for any future use. I still have five nearly new shirts with the old logo which I was required to buy from Lands End for $25 each. I wear them all the time, old logo or not.
Let me personally (from my own experience) warn anyone off from purchasing these beds. They change firmness as the temperature and barometric pressure change. So, set it at Sleep Number 100, and wake up at 80. A home heating system that maintains a constant air temperature will help, but there’s still that response to the weather. Oh, and don’t open a window.
