Like most of the world I’m housebound. Already feeling a little stir-crazy. Has anyone had any good experiences with flute lessons via skype?
Seán Gavin. I’ve had lessons with him for several months via Skype after meeting him at the Pipers Gathering two years ago. Teaches how he plays tunes, not just the tunes themselves, in a very clear, accessible way. Highly recommended. You can find stuff on YouTube to hear his playing style. seangavinmusic (at) gmail (dot) com
Best wishes.

I’d contact about any flute player you admire. Everyone who usually makes money this season is really hurting. Lots of folks who may or may not usually give skpe lessons may be considering it now. Whether or not they are a gifted teacher will become clear in a lesson or two. I know Sean is a good teacher with lots of experience, so he may be a good place to start.
Check out Seamus Hernon from Tubbercurry Co Sligo. He’s excellent. seamushernon@gmail.com
I can recommend Ben Power very highly. I have not had Skype lessons with him but those of the in-person sort. He’s a great teacher.

I second the recommendation of Sean Gavin. (You can PM me for contact info for Sean.) I’ve been studying with him on-line for a few months. He is steeped in the Irish tradition and a really good teacher. I also took a few Skype lessons with Conal O’Grada. He too was a great teacher; we just couldn’t work out a time with the time difference.
I also know that Nuala Kennedy and Brendan Mulholland teach on-line.
Brendan Mulholland is giving Skype lessons. Great chap, very talented and really adapts to the student.
