Is anyone aware of any instructors who offer uilleann lessons via Skype? I’ve found a couple (Patrick D’Arcy, Brian Bigley), but I’m wondering if there are others I might have missed in my web search. Obviously I’d much prefer to take lessons in person, but I’m in the middle of South Dakota, so lessons-by-distance will probably be my only option. Thanks in advance!
You’re in Fargo, I’m sure someone here might know someone more local:

Could take a look here:
http://www.nwup.org/ will only really be of use if you decide to move to Manchester, England.

Sounds from the page title that it’s only in-person lessons, but if you read the page, you’ll get to the Skype bit…
I am in NYC, and taking lessons from Bill Ochs. Although I am close enough to him (I am in Brooklyn), I have in the last couple of session used Skype. Though I prefer ‘in person’ lessons, the cool thing about doing a Skype lesson is that Bill can actually record the video lesson and send that to you so that you have a record of the lesson. Unfortunately, it will include your playing as well as Bills!

Looks like Tommy Martin is going to make himself available for Skype lessons.

Funny you should mention this being from SD… I’ve been teaching Jill Groth in Sioux Falls for the last few years on iChat, which is the video conferencing program built into Macs. I’ve also done some using skype. I live in SE Iowa so am also available for in person lessons should you decide to make the drive. You might get ahold of Jill as well, for a bit o piping comaraderie…
ha! just got an email from Jill about you… looks like you’re on your way… good luck and hope you’ll be in touch…
Ha! I was just searching for Jill’s email address! Perfect.
Just another note to say that I was about to post something here on C&F to advertise the fact that I do this so this thread is very timely. I’ve been teaching pipes, whistle, flute, etc. for over 40 years, both individually and in groups. I’ve given my teaching a lot of thought and very much enjoy finding ways to facilitate each student in gaining a vision of what is possible on their instrument and how to progress on the path to realizing their potential. Although I don’t encourage people to take up the pipes lightly, for those who are committed to pursuing this extraordinary instrument, I’m here to help…
You can check out me and my work as well as a lot of free educational articles at my website at uilleanpipes.com…
Michael Cooney teaches through Skype, too!
