I have an ad for a 1/2 set on Patrick’s web page. Check out this e-mail from a guy in Sweden who claims to be interested in purchasing the pipes. It smells funny to me. What do you think?
Hello,
Thanks for your prompt response and acceptance and i really appreciate your interest and wilingness in assisting me and for the full suppot you are redering for me to the end of this transction and i also appreciate your effort once again.
But there is a little problem about getting the payment to you because I would have loved to wire the funds via western union money transfer but the funds on my credit card is insufficient and I do not have access to recharge it due to where I am now and i also thank you so much for the reduced price for me which let me tobe sure that you are someone that can be trusted on.
Immediately I saw your reply,I thought of a way out and thank God it works.I emailed my associate that is presently in UNITED STATE. and he assured me that he will help me to wire you the funds but another problem that we are going to encouter is lack of enough cash on him at the moment while He even suggested a cashier check to me and as agreed before.
So,i have forwarded your details such as as your FULL NAME that will be printed on it,YOUR CONTACT ADDRESS and YOUR PHONE NUMBER, so that the payment could be issued to you.
One more thing,I am still going to ship the above to my Location here as said before,I have contacted a reputable shipping company that will handle that for me.I would have loved to give the work to an American shipping company but learn’t that their Goverment doesn’t welcome an International Shipping Company to convey Goods to their country.
I am yet to find one and when I contacted a realiable person to enlighten me more about this,he made it known to me that the cost of shipping is highly expensive which I don’t mind due to the profit am going to make after finishing compiling my research.I am told that they don’t also accept an international Check due to the long clearance on it.
Instead, the most preferable method of payment to them is Western union money transfer. Now I have told you about my Lack of funds and the same thing applies to my associate that will post your the payment to you.He then brought a nice Idea which I abided with purposely of my needed that he will be inflating the amount on the check to $4,500 whereby you will deduct your own cost and help me to transfer the remaining Funds to the shipper for the payment of their services and for them to be able to pay all the neccesry taxes on their way as they have other goods as wel they are to hlp me to pick up within your ficinity which i am taking care of the full payment of the shippment from your huble care.
I am little bit disturbed about this because,Firstly I dont know you and secondly, how do I have the trust that you will help me to send the remaining funds to the shippers after receiving the payemnt but i beleive that business is based on trust as i put trust on you.
I would be very happy if could write back and let me know your willingness in working with me and need your devotion as well which to show me that you will not betray me couple with your details that will enable you receive the payment from my associate.
I am sorry if am too harsh but everything should be handle with care.
My regards to your family
Best regards
Dan
It stinks like a typical Nigerian scam. “We’ll send you a load of money, you keep some, and forward the rest. All we need is your bank account details, full name, date of birth, contact number (so we can clone your identity/pester you for life)…”
The atrocious spelling is also typical of Nigerian scamming scumbags. Of course, I might be wrong, but all the Swedes I’ve ever met have been jolly decent people who can speak and write betterer English than wot most English blokes can.
I wouldn’t touch this with somebody else’s barge-pole. Seriously.
Yeah, it is certainly a scam. I get about three of these things a week, and they are all worded pretty much the same, and ask for the same details and personal information from me, practically verbatum. I simply read them (out sheer boredom sometimes) and then report them.
There was a link from the Flute forum a while ago to someone’s blog where the scammee played the Nigerian along for months, getting the scammer to send him money to help with the process. Even if it was all bull, it was an entertaining story.
Don’t respong to these people. Once they realize you are not going to even acknowledge their existence they eventually go away. I mark them as Junk in my email software, so that these don’t even show up any more.
Normally I wouldn’t respond. I get those Nigerian e-mails all the time. But this guy responded directly to my ad for a half set that I have posted on Patrick D’Arcy’s web page. That’s what fooled me at first. I guess it is better to sell stuff like this at tionols and piping clubs.
Definitely a scam! I ran into the same kind of people when I tried selling my car a few months back. They follow the same formula, all of them. They all seem to want to use some sort of special shipping company and all want to do wire transfers. Just ignore the guy and forget about it. Sucks though that you got a false offer for your pipes, sorry.
This guy continued to pester me. I finally had to forward all of his e-mails to the USSS (dept. of treasury) and report it as a possible 4-1-9 scam. His e-mail address has suddenly disappeared. Good news !
