heres a good one for ya all, I have just been listening to Davy Spillane album called ( a place among the stones ) track number 7 Callow Lake is a solo on low D whistle, lovely slow air which I am trying to play by ear with great difficulty, but i’m going to stick at it, about half way through he plays a note or slurrs it that sounds very eastern sort of turkish, any idea what this note is, if you’ve got the album its track seven if not I can e-mail an wma file of the particular piece
I have that CD, but I don’t know which note in the tune you’re talking about.
Sorry I can’t be of any help, but no notes seem unusual to me… but I’m not known for my great musical ear!
track seven Callow Lake about 50 seconds or so in the note seems to almost pitch change, I have been up and down my low d and can’t hit anything even slightly similar, I am just wondering if Davy hits an effect pedal with some sort of effect assighned to it to create the seemingly eastern/turkish type note.
Ah, now I think I know what you’re talking about!
Davy is using C natural very liberally in that tune, and he’s making a fast transition from C natural to C# there.
He also does a sort of D roll right before that, but I think it’s the C natural to C# transition you’re talking about.
