Another late night....If I had a hammer

I’d hammer in the morning.
BUT…If I had a whistle, I’d… ?

A punchy pastorkeith seeks a creative diversion

good idea with the whistle…

hammers can be dangerous when you’re like that!

Yes, improper tool handling can be unsafe.

“Hammers and whistles do not good bedfellows make.”

I tried to play my hammer once… it only had one tone and it was flat but was very loud. No forgiveness for mistakes either.

I saw somebody once who’d fitted a hammer with fiddle strings and a pick-up. It sounded not bad.

Folks have made guitars, banjos and fiddles out of cigar boxes.

Historically, music has been one art in which even very poor people could participate, and they have come up with some really marvelous home-made instruments, like the willow-bark whistles that were discussed a few months back.

To the man with a hammer, everything is a nail. To the man with a whistle, everything is a tune.

Hi James,

I saw a feature on a British sailor who made guitars, banjo’s and violins from match sticks. He played them and they were very good. He must have had some time on his hands. Best, Cyril.

You don’t have a whistle?? Gee, Keith, you’ve been stringing us along.

For hammers, try the Peen & Gavel board.

If you also had a sickle, you’d probably be run out of town.

Ooooh. Nice one!

P’raps we needs a ‘pithy whistle quotes’ sticky.

“I complained because I had no Copeland. Until I met a man who had no Feadóg.”

“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Give a man a whistle, and you annoy his family for a lifetime.”

“I whistle, therefore I am.”

To paraphrase Yogi:

“A pennywhistle isn’t worth a penny anymore.”

“He seems determined to make a trumpet sound like a tin whistle.” -
Aneurin Bevan

and then there’s … http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:fhWJZY-4SzkJ:www.brainyquote.com/quotes/keywords/whistle.html+whistle+quotes&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-a

If I had a hammer (only one) it would mean I had given up the many that I now have.

If I had a whistle it would mean the same unless it really was the only one I had. In that case I’d have to get many more.

MT Guru:
In New Testament Greek, the world most often translated as “if” really should be translated as “since”

e.g. “If you are the Son of God” the devil says, really meaning in the most proper sense “since you are…command this stone to become bread”

Thus, “since I have a whistle…” would be the most proper translation if I was fixing my mistranslated post in Biblical Greek.

:astonished: pastorkeith

I was following the dwarve’s advice of “Whistle while you work.” If anyone knows of a postion for a currently unemployed carpenter

Deleted double post

Sounds like some pretty fancy exegetical sophistry to me.

On the other hand, never argue with a pastor with a hammer. That’s the 11th Commandment. It’s true. :stuck_out_tongue:
