Very sad. I remember hearing him play sessions with Don Meade at Kate Kearney’s (they were more like little performances).

Yes, considering what an important guy this was for “Das Musik”, the silence in this thread has been deafening, all day!

I’m not familiar with the man or his music, sad to say.

RIP.

Influenced in his youth by Michael Coleman (a close friend of the family), Andy McGann became one of the leading New-York Sligo-Style fiddlers. He was a staple of the New York scene for decades and mentor to such fiddlers as Brian Conway. Beautiful, fluid playing. A great master and by all accounts a great gentleman, too.

Thank you, Bloomfield. Will do.

Well I’ve just got in from work and am deeply saddened by this news. There are not enough words in the English language to describe his music or indeed, his influence on modern fiddle players.
We have lost a true Master and the World is a poorer place without him.
R.I.P.

Slan,
D.

Wow! sorry for the silly question, but what uniform is he wearing?

A great loss. I remember listening to my da’s vinyl of Andy McGann. Incredible stuff. He remains my favorite fiddle player.

I heard there was a tribute to Andy McGann at East Durham. Can anyone
fill us in about it?
