Okay, I think I get it. Fasnacht is over now. That is why there really isn’t much to see other than empty bleachers and a few people walking around.
I liked the drums and whistles or fifes though.

Fasnacht is never over in Basel from monday 04:00 to thursday 04:00. Some people even won’t go to sleep in that time, some take a break for a nap of a few hours per day, just depending on their physical constitution.
So they have still about ten hours from now on. But now it’s raining and this is very nasty.
The instruments you heard playing with the drums are Piccolos keyed in D, which differ a little from the concert piccolo. Here a Picture
