Fifers?

So who’ll be at Deep River?

I’m officially a member of Ameri-clique now, complete with my mottled shirt and black hat, and will be carrying the flag of Basel. Theoretically I’ll be getting a Swiss piccolo soon, and lessons on how to play, march, etc. This will be my second muster, and I’m a bit amused at it all.

I met Jim at last years DRAM. . .hope to meet more of you soon!

Tyg

Where’s madfifer when you need him?

Ummm…him’s a her.

Hey Tyg-- e-mail me before the Northeast gathering and remind me to bring along my Mark Hoza fife, and the old antique one I have

This Deep River Muster is going to be cool…last week was the Ancient Mariner’s muster, and it was a big anniversary event. The Swiss Mariners, and a few other Swiss corps came over for it, and will have stayed for Deep River, so I’ll get to see and hear them also. Its completely new music to me, though I grew up hearing fife and drum.

Okay, I want information on the early Swiss music that was played for their mercenaries etc. What tunes did they play and what was the tune’s purpose?

I would also like to know if their fifes were the standard Bb cylinders or if they were different.

Any books ?
