I think that’s for a flat set Patrick. For a concert set you’d need something smaller:

Either way the wait list is about the same…every 5 minutes

I don’t think the weight would be much of an issue. I think jade, particularly jadite, would work well and take a high polish. Jade is extremely tough and not that brittle. It can be gotten in white but would be quite expensive.
Enough of this nonsense, already! Boxwood is a nice substitue for ivory, if you don’t like mammoth or plastic. But stone? Imitation stone? Gimme a break. That’s worse than choosing -
processed imitation cheese food substitute instead of…
cheese! Okay, only if you are lactose intolerant… But that has nothing to do with pipes.
Now, I’m ready to hear the “a good pipemaker would do it if you really want it” crapola.
C’mon. Who really dreams of a nice Quinn set made of Corian ?!?!?!?
There is at least one Quinn set out there made of Delrin, if the photos on his “On Pipes and Pipemaking” disc are to be believed. How is that so different from Corian?
I think a boxwood set mounted in silver and lapis lazuli would look fabulous ![]()
There is a big difference between delrin and corian, (or worse, stone.) One is practical, the other is just plain stupid.
I suppose now would be a bad time to suggest polymer clay as mounting material…
…
For every new thing I read, except processed cheese food substitute, I keep thinking…
“Could be fun.”
do you like this?

next month drones with the same mounts will arrive, hope I’ll be able to show you a good set with imitation horn. the set look great in my opinion (I don’t like white stuffs near brass and ebony), and I’m not afraid when I think about plastic on my set…so, I’m a happy man. I think many others artificial materials will be suitable for mounts, showing good effects.
I am in possession of a concert pitch 3/4 set made by Koehler and Quinn. The main stock and drones are made of delrin. There were regulators made of delrin (as I understand from Glands, who was the previous owner), but they were too flexible and were replaced with wood. The chanter is wood.
