Abell D Blackwood whistle for sale

Greetings:

As some of you may recall, I got an Abell D Blackwood whistle a couple of months ago and posted a message putting it up for sale. I decided I was being hasty and should give it a couple of months before I made a decision, so I withdrew the offer.

I am glad I gave the whistle more time. I have come to appreciate it much more than I did when I first received it. The Abell is a much more subtle whistle in it’s sound and playability than other expensive whistles I’ve tried.

However, my final decision is that while the Abell is very nice, and hands down the most beautiful whistle I’ve owned, I prefer the sound of metal whistles to wood ones.

I now have a new Copeland Nickle D, which was made with a special voicing to play a bit easier in the 2nd octave, ready for delivery and I can’t really afford to own multiple $300 whistles.

So… If anyone’s interested in a really nice Abell D whistle in Blackwood (about a year old / #698), well played in, and in fine condition.

I’d like $290 for it. I’ll pay USPS Priority Mail shipping + insurance. You save $10 off new price and no waiting.

email me at bretton@yahoo.com if interested.

Thanks!

As an honest response Bretton, $10 off a one-year old whistle is no real incentive (wait or no wait). I think you’ll find most people would pay the extra tenner and get a brand new one

Forgive my intrusion–I feel deeply
that one doesn’t sell such things.
One sleeps with them under one’s
pillow. Yes, you can own what are
the two best whistles in the world,
IMHO. They are opposites–wholly
different strategies in whistle making.

Well, if you don’t see it this way,
or real poverty looms and you can’t
sell something else more suitable,
this post will help you sell the
Abell.

I bet he sells that sucker in a heartbeat…Chris makes one helluva whistle.

Forgive my intrusion--I feel deeply that one doesn't sell such things. While the luxury of owning two (or more) of the world's best whistle sounds wonderful, I really can't afford to own more than one at a time right now, and I also really only need one main D whistle. Whistles are such individual things (even from the same maker) that I find I do best playing/practicing on one exclusively. Oh, and my wife also says I'm not allowed to spend any more money on musical instruments for at least a year! So any new aquisitions will have to be trades or funded by selling other whistles. As an honest response Bretton, $10 off a one-year old whistle is no real incentive (wait or no wait). I think you'll find most people would pay the extra tenner and get a brand new one. I'd probably agree with you on the purchase of metal whistles, but I really think the Abells (based on my limited experience) do sound better with a little age/playing. I also think you're underestimating the value of waiting (or NOT waiting!) to many people. -Brett

I’m not in the market for the Abell as I have several Thin Weasels, but if I WAS looking for such a whistle, I would not hesitate to buy it simply because it was a year old. Assuming it has been well cared for, this should not be a problem at all. Someone, buy it!

Oh, all right. . .I’ll bite (baring teeth) Still got it, Bretton?

p.s. - to finance this, I’m selling my firstborn. Any bidders?

Around Christmas I met this wonderful striped lady who told me she was done with buying whistles. Maybe a low D, but that was it… Wonder what happened to her.

(Narrowing eyes. . .) NO TELLING TYGHRE! Besides, changing ones mind is a Feline perogative. I have my little hammered dulcimer that needs a home, and the Susato, and maybe the Chieftan G. . .and did I mention my firstborn?

I stand corrected! I can take it on the chin…

Maybe I even helped to sell it!

Just food for thought

O’Riordan whistles retail for between $85 to $140. I’ve seen O’Riordan whistles go for up to $381 on e-bay. I would have had lots of soulsearching to do if I was not down to under a year wait when it was for up for bids. After playing the ones Pat made for me, I would not have felt cheated if I paid that price. Although I am happy to have kept the cash (limited debt, actually).

Ah. . .saved from myself. . .Brett had a previous offer that came through.

The Abell is sold. Thanks.

Hopefuly the Copeland I’ve got coming will meet/exceed my expectations. I’ll let ya know.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m on a wild goose chase, and I should just relax, sit back, play my cheap Oak D, and give up on expensive whistle pursuits.

Brett,
if you’ll send me a check for $290, I’ll have you lie down on a couch, tell me your story and then I’ll council you that you are just on a wild goose chase, and that you should just relax, sit back, play your cheap Oak D, and give up on expensive whistle pursuits.

How does that sound?

Since you are a first-time patient, I’ll throw in a Walton D, Mellow D if you prefer.

Dr. Bloomfield is IN.

Brett,

I can offer that same advise for $270 and will throw in an handfull of Sweetones.

Hey, Lee, you are spoiling the prices! There is NO WAIT for a consultation with Dr. Bloomfield!

No Waiting? No Waiting?
Hmm…
Look I’ll even go $250 and show, through past life regression, how I gave you this advise before my competition was even born!
