A tin whistle in the Yanni World Tour

I took my wife to Yanni in concert last night. She has been a big fan of his since before I met her. I have to say it was a fantastic show. Anyway, the next-to-last song was a reel. I know I’ve heard the melody or a variation of it before but I can’t say what it was.

The flute/alto sax player (after breaking out all kinds of flutes during the show) broke out a whistle which he played quite well. It might have been a Copeland Silver or nickel model. We were back a ways but I strained through my binoculars to figure out what it was. It looked like it was conical like a Copeland.

The Harpist, on the same song, picked up his harp and put it longways on his shoulder while he played it with both hands. The whole thing was pretty cool.

On the PBS special he had a couple if years ago, Charlie Adams (the drummer) had an awesome solo that I am dying to get ahold of sometime. The whole orchestra turned around to watch.

He did that last night. It was unbelievable to say the least. They brought a set out to the front of the stage and in the middle of the song he cut loose for what seemed like forever.

Oh yeahhhhhhhhhh, one more reason to love Yanni! I’ve been a fan for at least 8 years. I’ve got the video of “Live at the Acropolis” and the drum solo in there is right in the middle of his song “Marching Season.” Unfortunately they don’t have any CD recordings of that version of Marching Season, to my knowledge. But it’s a great video and one I highly recommend!

And I’m so excited to hear it’s a good show because FINALLY I get to go see him in concert! My sister is taking me and another sister when he comes to Salt Lake in May for a birthday present. Whoo-hoo!!!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! I just got back from seeing Yanni perform live here in SLC and I can say that I doubt I will EVER see such a great concert in my lifetime again!

Every musician was just amazing, spellbinding, awesome, incredible, magical…the didgeridoo player, the singers, the flautist (what a FLAUTIST!!! and yes, I saw the whistle, too!!), the drummers, violinist, harpist, etc…

I just can hardly believe what I saw was actually real.

I encourage anyone who loves music to get to a Yanni concert if you ever can! If you’re not a fan, at the end of the night you will be!!!
