Danu concert last night

Just a quick report. Went to see Danu last night in Asheville, NC. Awesome stuff. If you’ve not heard their new album, run out and buy a copy right now(it’s on Shanachie)! They put on a great show, even though they were missing their piper/bodhran player Donnchadh Gough (who was having a baby, according to the lads. I assume this meant his WIFE was having a baby, although with the things they do with technology these days…)
So it was fantastic stuff. At one point they brought up Asheville’s own Johnny Doyle (former guitarist of Solas) and a few other friends for some songs and sets(which cooked).
I went back stage afterwords to talk to the lads and scope out Johnny’s new guitar(A Fylde, of which he’s quite proud). This was their last night on tour in the States and the party was really going back stage. They wanted us to join them for some tunes at a nearby pub, but we needed to be heading back for the two-hour drive home(sigh).
All in all, it was an amazing night of music! And both flautist Tom Doorley and vocalist Ciaran O’Gealbhean pulled out whistles during various parts of the show(Generation Ds and Tom had an Overton Low F. He also has finally gotten his Olwell flute, 6-keys in cocus wood, a beautiful thing).
If you ever have a chance to see these lads in concert, do so without hesitation!

Slan,
Zac
