Since I took up learning the whistle not long before Christmas last I have spent far too much on them and have a mix of Alba, Allen and Ross,Chieftan, Susato and Burke, in a range of keys. But . today, on a visit to Ashford to havbe my car serviced I found a small music shop that sells Clarkes MEG whistles. …£1.95 each…I bought a high D and C. When I got home and tried them out I was really amazed. They are ‘conical’ ..if thats what thinner at the bottom than the top is!..both have a sweet tone, both are completely in key…tested against my other whistles…and one can sail from one octave to the other with ease. High, obviously , but not shrill. Each note is accurate. All in all realyy good whistles…I never realized one could get so much for so little…look nice as well…all black. Thinking I should perhaps have started at the lower priced end and worked up! Love the whistles I,ve got though. Les.
Hi, Les,
I’m a big fan of Megs, especially for teaching kids, because they are forgiving to play, and at $3 a pop at The Whistle Shop, if a few get used to hit rocks, it’s no big loss.
I keep on in my car for traffic lights.
