A plea for using real names on this forum

Hi Boys and girls,
Yes indeed, I would like to have users of this board using their real names. Why using nicknames that don’t make sense? Or must it be that I meet a guy at the Tradfestival in Ennis saying : Hi don’t you know me? I’m “fastdragon” on the Fipple site or “tradflute” to name some not existing names. Some of my friends Jem, Gabriel (sorry guys to mention your names) use their own name. So lets change your user name in your REAL name. You don’t have to put up your surname, just your first name will do.Wouldn’t you like to know with who you are talking? All the best,
Ronnie
P.S.
Sorry boardmaster, this will maybe bring more work for you

Well, Gabriel is not really his name, right S*****n?
I think everybody can do what they prefer…
I have my name on my signature.

That’s not going to work as well as you may expect, certainly not for me. Being of Irish extraction and having a commonly assigned first name in Irish circles, my name is already in use and there is a queue of others having that given name as well. When I first registered here my name was rather well used already. I’d think that might be too confusing, not unique enough.

And I wouldn’t think to ask anyone for a real photo as an avatar either.

I’ve met quite a few chiffers at festivals and workshops, real names or nicknames I have not felt any inconvenience or confusion.

Cheers.

From the C&F Policy thread:
“If you wish to change your username, PM a Moderator who will consider your request.”

Do so at your own risk.

Not to worry. It won’t be more work for us because it isn’t going to happen.

People always have the option of signing their real names to their posts.

Some avatar you’ve got there. According to Google Images, it’s a “shelled amoeba Arcella”. However, it looks like some sort of demented 3D squirrel launching itself at us.

A strange example of a meta-thread that, somehow, doesn’t offend me, or, it seems, the other Mods (unless some of them haven’t woken up yet  ).

I for one would hate to have to use my real name on here. Fancy people knowing who I am! That’s why I use such an opaque and obscure pseudonym.

I do, however, use my actual photo, of course.

Of Course this is to every-one to decide. I didn’t expect that the ones using nicknames would suddenly change avatar and name. It was just a thought like so many that are vented on here. Maybe I must think of changing it back too
@Lorenzo: It is his surname.

Accountants have long been known for their imagination.

@Lorenzo: It is his surname.

Exactly, not his name

Yes! Well said, that man! The world didn’t get where we are today without the imagination of accountants!

Oh wait …

There are plenty of people who know my actual given name but who, after years of acquaintance, keep demonstrating that they apparently still don’t know who they’re talking to.

good morning!

So it wouldn’t really matter if you use your real name or not. Maybe just erase this post for being not relevant

Goodmorning Denny, its evening here so I’m off to the session in a bit

Julia is my real name. The other name is my off-board avatar.

Sure, David…

In fact everybody knows Julia so this post was irrelevant lol

I’d hate the Internet to have my personal information - it is bad enough that Inland Revenue does.

But it does anyway, Waterfall. It took me two seconds to find you on Myspace, from where it is pretty easy to get quite a lot more. My point is not that you should be more careful, but that there’s no point in being careful. We’re out there, whether we like it or not.

 I would hope so!

but, it was before noon for Nanohedron
