A New Whistle Maker- Blackwoodwhistles.com

Hello Everyone,

My name is Gal, and after many years of playing the whistles,
I decided to build my own.

They are made of aluminum alloy and specially treated to give a classic black finish, ornamented with two decorative rings.

Please take a glance at www.blackwoodwhistles.com for more information.

Yours Faithfully,

Gal.

Seems a bit mis-leading to call them Blackwood when the whistles are metal.
Having said that, they look nice, and I’d like to hear a sound clip in a room with less natural reverb.

Have you considered a whistle tour?

Hello Thomaston,

Thank you for your comment,

In the design, I wanted to give the whistles the blackwood looks- however, there is an emphasis, everywhere in the website, and almost in every second sentence, that the whistles are made of aluminum.

Of course more media will be available in the future,

Yours,

Gal.

Welcome to the Whistle Forum. Good luck with the whistles.

No offense was intended.
In fact, I rather like the aesthetic. They’re very close to what I imagine a hypothetical high D MK would look like.

Beautiful-looking work and a very professional website to boot. Good luck!

Dale

Now I wish I would’ve said how clean the website looked.

Good luck with your venture and a heads-up. The site doesn’t display properly in Opera web browser Version 12.16, lots of links not visible they will highlight with mouse over but there are no text descriptions.

They look great, both the whistles and the website. I’ve been beaten to it but would love to see a whistle tour in the UK and Europe when you’re ready. The best of luck with your new enterprise.

Thank you very much for the kind words.

BDW, This is the whistle in action:

Thank you very much for the feedback.

Gal.

I wonder if this this is the first Israeli-made commercial tinwhistle, or have there been other makers there?

They sure are visually attractive. Almost like a high-D version of an MK whistle.
I… kind of want one. The return policy makes it tempting, but it would take $70 to ship it round trip.
Though, I bet some USian would buy it off me if I didn’t like it to save on int’l shipping. Hmm. OK, I’m done thinking out loud now.

I’ll join the chorus calling for a whistle tour.

They look and sound very nice. Some lower keys would be great: A, G.

Good luck!

Kudos on the slick website and of course the whistle design. They have to be some of the most striking whistles I’ve seen. Would love to know some specs, backpressure, volume, response, etc. Hope to see a tour in the near future. Good luck, I’ll look forward to seeing more.

Yafeh m’od! (spelling?)
Welcome and good look with your beautiful whistles.

Your whistles are beautiful, with a slick modern aesthetic. The name is a bit misleading, I agree. It’s hard to get a good sense of the sound and playability without hands-on (lips-on), but I would love to try one!

Hi guys!

Thank you for the warm welcoming,

I didn’t want to bore you with tech specs, but since you asked:
I love response- so the whistles have a relatively small diameter holes-but without a negative effect on the volume- around 87db from 3.2feet.
I also love backpressure because it gives you a good feedback wile playing, but too much of it, is as worse as too little, because it hinders the responsiveness. So it is just right for my style. The silver model has a bit more backpressure.
The mouthpiece block is inclined, chamfered, and made of resin (and not metal)
that is to avoid clogging and condensation.

I am in a different time zone, so sorry about the late comments

Gal.

How strange, I’m feeling the urgent need for this whistle quickly growing on me…The look is really attractive, as well as your playing on the video. But I’ll second that there’s too much reverb. I suggest you make a good recording of your whistle, without effects, and add it as a link on your site. You give technical indications about the measured sound level and that’s fin, but a simple comparison to some well-known brands may be easier to understand. Good luck for your business.

I grabbed one. I’ll post a sample as soon as it is in my hot little hands.
Only $28 to ship to NC, USA (less than the posted average shipping cost, yay).

Whoad!

You’ve measured decibel levels; got to love it. Two questions. How much back pressure in comparison to other brands, and what about the C-nat fingering?
