A good music school?

Hi,

U-P is a drug in my life… so I have decided to learn/study this instrument for few years

So where are the best Irish trad music schools (Galway/Dublin/Brittany)? What are the best places to live with Irish trad music?

Merci,

Loïc

If your interest is in Irish music generally you can do serious study in the University of Limerick. Alternatively, if you’re just interested in uilleann pipes, go to Dublin and attend piping classes at Na Píobairí Uilleann (www.pipers.ie).

University of Limerick is the place to go for full time study.

Good luck!

Patrick.

Galway has a great combination of an ‘active’ music scene and available instruction. Tommy Keane, for instance, lives in Galway and teaches the piping students at Limerick (when there are any).

Near Angers ( France ) is living Marc Pollier . He is a good piper , a good teacher and was living some years in Irland ( Ennis ) . In Brittany there is a school in Carhaix with piping lessons from Patrick Molard… and soon near Carhaix a well known pipemaker…(but it’s another story) . I think the best and only good way is in Irland ! For biniou kozh and “gavotte” brittany is very well !
Good Luck

Hi,

I myself have been trying to trace down the Limerick scholarship. A few people have recommend that I apply (including Mikie Smyth and Jack Brennan). However when I visited the Limerick website they had nothing on it. On the grapevine I heared that The Chieftains had sponsored part of it and therefore wrote to their manager at BMG request some more information. So fare no response. If you happen to have any information that you might have access to. Could you please pass it onto me via PM.

Thanks L42B
