I’ve been going through some old Comhaltas “Treoir” magazines recently, and always find the competition results interesting. In one age group one year, the 3 prize winners in the flute slow-air competition were - in alphabetical order - Seamus Egan, Brian Finnegan and Deirdre Havlin. Seamus is known mainly as a founder member of “Solas”, Brian for his work with “Flook”, and Deirdre as a member of “Deanta” and “The London Lasses and Pete Quinn”.
Who came first, second and third ?
Happy New Year to all.
hmmm totally guessing here…
- seamus (i bet it’s ‘dear irish boy’)
- deirdre
- brian
Two of my heros there. Hey, what year was that?
- Seamus
- Brian
- Deidre
Not that I know, of course …
Will we get the answers?
All will be revealed on Wednesday ![]()
Here’s my guess
1 Deirdre
2 Brian
3 Seamus
Year 1979
Spot on, “keel-hauled”, except that the year was 1982. 12 - 15 age group. Seamus did get a first in that age group for concert flute. Deirdre had a “double”, also winning the slow-air 12 - 15 on tin-whistle.
