The above link was recently posted at the “session.org”. It’s a gallery mainly of photos of flute players over the years, and should be of some interest.
There’s a photo of a group of flute and whistle tutors from the Willie Clancy School in 1988. I think I can identify them all - just for a bit of fun, can anyone else ? There are 2 players there whom I’m never heard mentioned in this forum, but Mr Gumby might have come across them.
From the 88 group Seamus and Michael usually don’t get a mention although I have at one time mentioned Bill here. FWIW, I think I know them all too (and when in doubt, clicking ‘more’ will give you a description and the names).
I didn’t think it would be a problem for you, Mr.G. I hadn’t noticed the “more” button, which kinda spoils things, but I did notice that 1 name has been omitted from the list. I’d been thinking Bill and MF wouldn’t be that well known hereabouts.
Michael Falsey hasn’t played the flute for a long time, since the late eighties/early 90s, during the past few years he has gone of the pipes as well but he still plays the whistle. He’s on good form though, especially considering his age.
And ofcourse he is on the cover of Hammy’s flutebook (with his father and Joe Cunneen) so a lot of people would have seen him without realising it.
It’s been a while since I heard Bill Mac play but I saw him in Ennis during the last few months.
Seamus McMahon isn’t mentioned here much either, last I saw him mentioned in a formal musical context was as part of the line up of the Ceiliband of An Garda Siochana. Great player.

Seamus probably plays the fiddle more nowadays. He was also a member of Fisher Street.
I don’t know if his brother John play much these days.

I saw John last at the tionol in Listowel, with the concertina. Plays around Wexford, I am told.
