I recently recorded a song (not a tune) with a local band that required a 3rd octave d and e. The song was in the key of G, so I tried to use a Generation high G whistle, but switched back to my Copeland D and just used the third ocatve.
Does anyone have a fingering chart for higher 3rd ocatave notes (f#, g, etc.)?
Here are the fife fingerings for the third octave that I just pulled out of an old posting. Block your ears!
D3 ( o x x x x x )
E ( x x o o o x )
F# ( x o x x o o )
G ( x o x o o o )
A ( o x x x x o )
B ( x o x o x o )
C# ( o x o o o o )
D4 ( o x x o o o )
I have found that I can get a pretty good Yankee Doodle by starting on D3 and going as high as G but anything much above that gets pretty bad! In fact the other notes above D3 aren’t that great either!

Thanks…I’ve had no need past E3…but my curiosity got the best of me.
I don’t think that there will be any one set of fingerings up there which will work on every whistle. I have a different set that works for me on some of my whistles. Some of these fingerings are from my flute playing days.
D OXXOOO
E XXOXXO
F# XOXXXX
G XXXOOO
A OXOXOO
B same as f#, but bloooooooow!
On some whistles these notes can’t be attacked but can be reached only from certain other notes. JP
Just thought I’d mention that they make some very nice ear protectors that are available at most gun shops. They serve equally well for third octave playing or 12 gage shooting!
