3rd octave E on Tipple

hey folks,

still getting to know my new Tipple, but things are going well. My questions is: what’s a good fingering to use for 3rd octave E on a Tipple D? (mine is 3-piece, white, dimpled, six hole)

Thanks

XXO OOX
or
XXO XXO

XXO OXX
or
XXO OXO

As a fifer, I favor XXO OXO for E.

Here are some others (mostly in tune, but they get rather painful):

F#= XOX XXX (some use XOX XOO, but it’s too sharp IMO)
G = XOX OOOG# = OOX OOO (note this is a natural harmonic of C# so OOO OOO works, too, but using L3 helps it out)
A = OXX XXO
A# = OXO XOO
B = XOX OXO

after that you’re on your own.

(disclaimer: I make no personal guarantees as to the integrity of any window panes, glassware, or fine china in the immediate vicinity of your Tipple flute whilst attempting to play these notes.)

Hmm?

Okay, now, for D-G we have:
XXX OOO + extra X to flatten down to pitch
XXO OOO + extra X to flatten down to pitch
XOO OOO + extra X to flatten down to pitch

And ‘A’ might also be ‘OOO OOO’ with a -lot- of extra Xs to flatten down to pitch?
but what’s happening with the B?

(The next D should be ‘OXX XXX’ overblown another level. AFAIK, the overblowing
is Fundamental->Octave->Octave + a Fifth ->Second Octave… err wait, won’t that
put the 3 x overblown OXX XXX at the same pitch as the 2x overblown XXX OOO ?)

And why, on ‘A’ do you not go back to OXX XXX ? … (Maybe because it’s the same as
1x overblown XXO OOO ? Or is it the next octave up? Hmm… )

I need to get earplugs so experimenting with this isn’t so painful. :wink:

wow, thanks for all the suggestions yall! I’ve give some of these a try.

You might find that they vary, from flute to flute…
