Young Irish Musician's Weekend - June 2007

Hi -

I just wanted to tell you all about a festival I am organizing focusing on our next generation of musicians.

The Young Irish Musicians Weekend is a student-centered course for young musicians (under 21) and their families with master-led instrument workshops, panel discussions, student-led interviews, master and student performances, ceili and sessions. A parallel program for families is also being planned. We hope to attract students from across the region including Chicago, St Louis, Milwaukee and Cincinnati. Our confirmed master artists are James Kelly, Fintan Vallely, Daithi Sproule, Paddy O’Brien and the Doon Ceili Band.

The dates are June 22-24, 2007 in St Paul, Minnesota. Classes are limited to students under the age of 21 though we will have all-ages evening public events on Friday and Saturday. We are doing our best to keep this very affordable and family oriented including dorm rooms at a local college for $25 a night! Keep in mind, Northwest Airlines has their headquarters here so flights are more reasonable than you might think!

Pass the word, if you would! Visit our website for updated information, as it is available: http://www.centerforirishmusic.org

Thanks, Kate Dowling

That sounds cool. I’m probably too far away to make it, but if I could I would, being young and all.
