Hi, Just wondering if anyone learnt on one of these.
I have heard some good things about them. If you did what are they like.
Think they are in the key of C…
Are they easy for adults to play?
Any info appreciated..
Thanks Tony…

Key of C, recorder fingering, not very good. I had one in the past, remember it being better than the one i have now. Cheap, so at least you won’t waste a lot of money. ![]()
I got one a year ago to introduce myself to the flute. The two-piece fife is indeed in the key of C. I not sure if it’s in tune though. Lemme see, *takes it out and checks with a tuner… Yep it is. Except for the accidentals coz I can’t seem to play any of them.
The fingering chart http://www.thewhistleshop.com/catalog/otherinstruments/flutesfifes/yamaha/fingering.htm
says you can play sharps and flats with half-holing but that never worked for me even on the Irish flute.
(when I half hole that low C, or low D on the flute, it’s just not there. but that’s just me.)
The hole spacing is comparable to a tinwhistle in D.
However, they have eight holes so you’re gonna use your left thumb and right pinkie.
I’d send it to you but shipping would cost more than I paid for it.
Thanks for that James,
They are really cheap and when I saw them on Ebay I had to find out more about them.
Any possibility you can send me a sound file of what the thing sounds like?
Is the sound not as SHRILL as the Whistle, if you know what I mean.
Thanks
TONY…

I tested it on my younger brother and he said my whistle (Clarke D) is ‘whinier’. So I guess the fife’s not as shrill.
Here’s a page I made. The sound sample is in there.
