Hi. As the subject states, I’m in need of a high C whistle. I’d prefer something “higher end,” but feel free to message or email me what you’ve got.
Here are a few of the brands I’d be most interested in:
Humphrey Session High C Whistle (Journeyman or Stealth)
Carbony High C Whistle (or leading tone High C)
Oz High C Whistle, wood or resin. (not holding my breath).
Susato maybe…
What about Setanta? I just ordered one. Got some D’s and want a C now. And there are three choices. A brass fipple, a brass and delrin or a delrin. I took the brass and delrin. John says in his video it’s the most balanced one.
The mouthpiece material options make a great difference, and the Setanta videos demonstrating that are helpful. Each to their own.
Out of the three, for a high pitched whistle, I’d be inclined to select at least part delrin, it all depends on what music you’re intending to make.
Yeah, I will talk about my experience when I get it. CutiePie from youtube played the C whistle with the delrin head and she’d prefer this one. But not the C with different fipples, so it’s not a real comparisation.
I have a Reyburn C brass I got as a used D C set. Is very nice, I have 0 complaints. It maybe uses more air than some others but is still nothing vs a low whistle. Excellent tuning and ease of playing in tune. Does nothing unexpected or hard to manage. Doesnt overblow too easily or too hard. So it gets my full recommendation, I’ve felt no need to try any other C’s since getting it.
There’s tons of other good high whistles though. I mostly play low and alto whistles so I just try to stay with the same few makers to keep things consistent. Otherwise I’d want to try them all.
The only high C whistles I have are a Carbony & and an extra C body for an Delrin Abell high D. I considered offering the Carbony, but took it out to play, and decided not to sell (at least at this time). It’s a comfortable whistle to play - light & with the conical bore/tapered body, and a mouthpiece with a significant scoop on the back.
Since you are maybe considering a Susato, let me say that the Susato Oriole line is very different from from their Kildares. The Oriole C is not as loud as the Kildare, but loud enough for me. I really enjoy playing the Oriole C.
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions! I am considering ordering one of the Carbony whistles but wanted to see if I could find anything cheaper used first. I’ve also tried a Reyburn many years ago and liked it, so I’ll look into that as well.
If I get a Carbony, then I have to decide between the regular C and the Leading Tone C.
