WTB: Burns Folk Flute

I’m looking for a Casey Burns Folk Flute. I’ll only be in the States from 12/17 to 1/5 so I thought I’d see if anyone has one they’re interested in selling.

Worst case, I’ll order from Casey and pick it during the summer break.

anyhow, if you have one you’d like to sell now, PM me.

Scott, why do you think you need the small-hands version, specifically?

Not saying that you don’t need it, but the standard FF is already a pretty easy reach - if you can handle the standard FF, you’ve got a much better chance to get your hands on one fast.

Now that I’ve been playing for a while, I can handle a flute with inline holes just fine, but the standard FF is a lot less stretch. Enough difference that my older daughter (4’ 11" tall, with hands in proportion) can easily handle the standard Folk Flute even though she can’t handle the reach needed for my Jon C R & R model.

Perhaps I could get by with the standard FF. I was basing my decision on the info on Casey’s site that showed how to measure across your hand from your small finger to your thumb. It said if that measures less than 7.5" you should choose the Small-handed model.

Using that method of determination, I measured right at 7.0".

I’m game. I suppose if I found someone willing to sell me a standard FF and then decided I couldn’t manage the reach well I could always resell it and order the small-handed model.

I’ll edit the original subject and see if it helps. Thanks DCrom!

7.0" is fairly small, all right - sounds like you’re in my daughter’s size range. By way of comparison, my finger spread is about 8.5" - that’s been enough reach for every D flute I’ve tried.

You can probably handle the regular F-F, but I can see why you’d be looking at the small-hands model. Best of luck in finding what you need!

My hand span is about 6.5" and 7.0" if I stretch my fingers just beyond comfortable. Before ordering the small handed model, I contacted Casey about the measurements for the holes. This was his reply:

“Hole spacing on my Standard between 1st and 3rd holes on the left hand is 69mm, on the right hand 65mm (center to center). On the small handed flute the spacing is 64mm for the left hand, 60 for the right.”

The second hole placement was not included, but at least the total span is there. Try measuring these out on a broom handle or rolled up piece of paper to see if it would be more comfortable for you than the standard spacing.

Hope this helps!!

Great idea! If you try this, try arcing the notional holes maybe 10 degrees out of a straight line (look at Casey’s website for an example).

Small as it is, the way Casey angles the holes makes a huge difference in comfort level.
