Anyone taken one? Like it?
I only have a second hand report. That person reported that they had to do a lot of sailing related tasks, and the boat got tossed around by the waves.
I’ve been on three (which should tell you how I liked them)- once off the coast of Maine and twice in the Caribbean. All these trips were many years ago, so I don’t know if their culture has changed.
All were very low-key and low in amenities (sort of like camping, but on the high seas) and very relaxing. I went on my own, and on all three I found people I really enjoyed hanging out with (which was good, because hanging out is the main activity on these trips). On all of them, the passengers had the opportunity to help out with the chores, but on none was it mandatory - and in most cases, we did very little. (On one, the cook was young, blonde and extremely attractive, and for some reason, all the male passengers insisted on helping with meal prep…). Passengers were responsible for our own amusement, and were very successful on that score.
If this is the kind of trip you’re looking for, avoid the larger ships (none of mine carried more than 25 or so passengers) and ones with lots of features and activities - they will be more like regular cruises.
