Several years ago, Mr Smith set up shop a while back not far from me, said he was making and selling pipes but would not let anyone actually visit his shop, eventually claimed that he did not make the pipes himself but that they were made by two well-respected Irishmen living in the US. One of the names he gave as one of these makers was the same name given as a seller on Ebay who was selling photocopies of the Garvin pipemaking book, according to Wilbert Garvin. Mr Smithâs web presence has now disappeared and, despite living a couple hours away by car, the Houston area pipers have never seen anything by him, met him, or know of his whereabouts. I notice on the Ebay pictures that the mainstock is engraved with William Smiths name and his PO Box instead of an address, further obscuring his identity. Need I say more?
THe case looks like it might be worth the $100, then you could throw the rest of the shite out and put a real set in there. -gary
