Who’s he? And does anybody know details about his set?
I recognize the picture. There was an article about him in An Piobaire recently. I believe he was an Englishman and the set is by Woof. Was his name Wathen? Something like that.
That’s the late lamented lovely man Ronnie Wathen. Piper, climber, poet, etc. And that’s his Wooff set, about which he wrote a poem which was quoted here recently.
My favourite place to go in Miltown (back in the day, as they say over here) was the Central Hotel, when Geoff, Ronnie, and Peter were playing over tea and sandwiches.
One of his poems, The Regulators, had the classic assertion that regulators were
the bridge
between monotone modal
and romantic sludge

Built early 80s. Real ivory, sterling silver, the key blocks have metal slots, which Geoff never did again - a friend went to Geoff’s house and made a little video interview, the chanter was in for repair. Ken McLeod owns them now. The small reg has an E key on the bottom, also note the double bass regulator, which Ronnie removed at some point. Slick work!

The chanter was actually replaced and the double bass lost.
