Tonight I was listening to public radio and on a program called Fresh Air, there was an interview with George Ween. He ran the Newport Jazz and Newport Folk festivals for twenty-five years.
While most of the interview centered around the jazz stuff, Ween was asked to recall his most significant memory of the Folk festival. He never mentioned the artist by name or the year it happened, but he said that there was a guy from South Africa who almost didn’t make it there, and no one really remembered hiring, but he came on with a tin whistle. The crowd apparently loved his jazz influenced sound and he was soon joined by Ween and another musician. When they finished, 15,000 fans were on their feet in applause.
Would anyone happen to know who the artist was?
