Whistling Pigeons?!

Came across this unusual topic and instruments by accident. The popular sport of pigeon racing and raising flights uses multiple whistle flutes atached to the tail feathers of pigeons!!! Here are some photos and some short paragraphs…

Here is a webpage devoted to these whistles(also used on kites)

I thought I would introduce this subject for those of you who feel there isn’t anything NEW to acquire(Pigeon WhOA!?).

Thomas Hastay.

Who would think, a flock of sky rats that whistle in tune. Some people just have to much time on their hands.

Are these terrorists weapons? Imagine a flock of pidgeons swooping down on you all sounding like Banshees from Hell or Heaven. Or would that be a doppler effect?

When I thought it was safe to go outside again. Thanks for posting, the world indeed is a curious place but I won’t be buying either in the near future.

STUKA PIGEONS!!! :astonished:

I’ve been ‘bombed’ by them a couple of times! :imp:
Isn’t it supposed to be lucky?

If you ever come across Wendell Levi’s book The Pigeon, have a look at the wartime exploits of some carrier pigeons. Carrier pigeons are homing pigeons trained to home in two directions. Here’s a story on the web about Cher Ami who was shot and decorated with the Croix de Guerre. I don’t think the military wanted whistles on these birds though.

I’m wondering which end you blow when you whistle a pigeon?
And is it legal?

What, ducked-flutes?
