whistleporn

Just got an email from Wyobadger who tells me that he can’t get access to this board because the school’s porn filter won’t allow it.

There’s a mystery for you. Anybody seen anything that might be triggering it?

Dale

What about “Dale’s Naked Black Splendour” on the inexpensive whistle page?

Aaron

Could be, but it’s the message board wyobadger is shut out of.

Maybe it’s the “Cutie-Pie” thread…

Robin

Serpent mentioned it. I think he was blocked out from a network server at work… something like that ??

Serpie-pie, what’s the fix?

My wife always thinks the term “fipple” sounds vaguely naughty, maybe that’s it?

Hmm, could it be the flute porn thread. Maybe the word porn is the problem.

Could be anything. I tried to post something on a backpacking forum which contained the word “bungee” (as in “bungee cord”). In the post the word was replaced by an ellipsis because it contained the letter sequence “bung”.

It’s overuse of the word “blow”. :boggle:

I just knew eventually it would catch up with us.

Is he trying to go to the direct url, http://chiffboard.mati.ca?

I know the proxy server and filtering implementation at our school was silly. It really could be any number of things.

It doesn’t have to actually be anything objectionable. Several years ago I bookmarked a Scottish travel website, then my company installed a new filter and whenever I tried to access that site, I got a picture of Barney Fife wagging his finger at me, telling me I had been denied access because of porn. It did that for several sites, no rhyme or reason to it. Finally we updated to a new filter and haven’t had that problem since.

I’d bet a lot it’s the “flute porn” thread. I was really nervous when I’d check the board at work (I work for the US government) when the flute porn thread was prominent because, quite naturally, Uncle Sam doesn’t like porn on his computers, and I bet he’d not understand flute porn…

It may be that the filter is set to disallow visits to ANY message boards. It might be an idea to try other boards to see if that’s the problem.

Bung is a rude word? In the UK there are two meanings -

noun: a small rubber cork for sealing the hole in the bottom of a boat, or a stopper in a bottle

verb: slang term for throw, or pass. e.g. “Hey Riseard, bung me that monkey wrench”

What could it possibly refer to that is rude?

I once had the work “chink” disallowed because it is an antiquated slang term for a Chinese person. It’s common to “go for a chinky” meaning to get a chinese takeaway, no insult intended.

I used it to refer to a small crack or gap in a wall (as in Shakepeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream), and also the small beam of light that may shine through such a gap. For me a crack is too small and a gap too big for what I was describing.

It might be posts like: He thrust his long, hard whistle into her eagerly waiting lips..

Then, there were those threads about whistlemaking which talked about things like rigid, throbbing tools…

Sorry, I couldn’t help myself

Martin, you’ve just pointed out how we (North Americans) and you (British) both speak the same language and don’t understand each other at all.

First, the easier one, is “chink.” In North America it has a long history of use as a pejorative term for people of Chinese descent. It isn’t quite as rude as some other racial slurs, but it’s considered pretty insensitive.

The other term brought up, “bung,” has a bad connotation in the context of “bunghole.” Interestingly, the term “bung” may come to us from and old Gaelic term buine, cf. the Irish buinne and Welsh bwng, all of which mean a hole, usually referring to the hole which is used to tap a keg or barrel. Without getting too explicit, “bunghole” does have a slang connotation similar to “bumhole.”

Linguistics: fun at parties.

Ridseard, I can’t believe you used the word “ellipsis” here in a family forum like this. Is there no decency any more?

“I am Cornhulio- I have no BUNGHOLE for my Teepee!” - ‘Beavis and Butthead do America’

I wonder what the filters make of that Cinematic quote?

Bung is an interesting word in other ways. It can refer to the hole in a barrel, as you say, but can also mean the stopper that goes into the bung, as well as the verb meaning to insert the stopper. Therefore, one could bung the bung with the bung.

Actually, its “I have no T.P. for my bunghole!!” not the other way around. Not that it really matters since we’re talking about beavis and butthead

The funny thing with those so called “filters” is that they don’t work. My high school had one which would not allow access to Google.com but didn’t seem to have a problem with stileproject.com which is full of all manner of pornography and otherwise objectionable material. There’s probably NOTHING on chiff and fipple which warrants screening at all, even accidentally, it’s just the filter doing what it does best: being completely useless and annoying.
