A friend of mine, Linda, makes harps. She has a great T shirt which says, beneath a picture of a harp, " If you were a harp I would pluck you".
Now please note that, however slight, there is a degree of subtlety about this. I have been trying to think of a whistle T shirt along the same lines, but cannot introduce any subtlety at all. Apart from the obvious non-subtle possibilities, does anyone have any suggestions?
How about your .sig?
Or Lauren Bacall’s classic line, something like, “You know how to whistle – just put your lips together and blow.”
Yeah! With a nice closeup of a pair of red lips approaching the mouthpiece of a whistle-- pretty darned provacative, but not blatantly sexual
I’m still hoping someone will come up with an Irish looking Kokopelli for a T shirt design.
How about your whistle mouthpiece resting against the bottom lip of a pair of high gloss lips with the words “Original SYN” ?
Or Adam and Eve, in their fig leaves, playing whistles, with the same line? (Maybe charming a serpent?)
On the top of the picture:
If you had a fipple, you’d be a whistle
On the bottom of the picture,
If you had two fipples, you’d be a SYN
This image came into my mind. Two whistles crossed on the front of a tee shirt with the fipples in a uhm strategic location. The wording across the top would read “NICE FIPPLES!”

Wasn’t that Stabey’s “avatar” for a while? ![]()
How about: “Tweak my fipples!”

OK, sometimes first trys aren’t the best. Here’s another:
On the top:
If it’s a SYN,
It’l make you grin!
On the bottom
All right, two for the price of one:
Go ahead and SYN,
It’l make you grin!
or three:
Go ahead and grin!
You’ve got a SYN!
Whistlers do it with their tongues and fingers? ![]()
I think the word The needs to be included with the other part. I submit the following as well.
The Original Sin

BTW-- I found a great site online for making t-shirts. It’s www.artapart.com
They have an online design page where you can work up your own design, even uploading pics. I made myself a Busman Whistles shirt with a small pic of some whistles on the chest, and “Got Wood?” and a larger whistle picture on the back, with mywebsite URL. It came out quite nice.
Your design can be applied to several types of shirts including women’s cut, plus other items such as mouse pads, etc. Best part is that there’s no minimum order. You can also send a link to your design to friends, customers etc and they can order their own goodies. Prices are not bad considering that this is all custom work. I’m sure there are other outfits like this online too.
All right, last try:
If you were a SYNwhistle,
I’d give you a toot!
Thanks everybody,
you all managed to complete the exercise with a great deal more subtlety than I was able to muster. I must admit that my favourite was the Lauren Bacall quote, I think it has just the right tone.
Thanks!
If you were a whistle, I’d play you. Or, I’d play with you. Or, if you were a pennywhistle we could play a jig.

Hmm…I might have to revive the Chiff&Fipple hand sticking out of the water design. Cafe Press did an abominable job, both in terms of size limitations and color reproduction, which they didn’t even come close to.

Yeah, the concept is excellent, but the shirt itself…is hard to look at. I wish Dale would have Cafe do that version of the whistle in the clouds. That’s a cool looking design.
Cafe Press printed that design. I designed it. The colors were too pastel-ish for me. What I was looking for on the hand one is what’s on Michael Burke’s website. I thought those colors came out great. CafeP kept printing way too dark and muddy and I kept lightening the design until the life went out of it. They were computer generated designs, by the way, using 3d modeling software and Bryce. (Look at the ripples below the hand on Mike’s site. There are several whole reflections of the hand and whistle.) http://www.burkewhistles.com/higgins.html

Someone on this board has the motto,
“To aire is human; to jig, divine.”
Not suggestive, but a good possibility for a tee shirt, I think.
Best wishes,
