Just want to share a story with my Tin Whistle/Flute Experience.
1ST BELIEF
Last Monday I want to our Post Office to Pick-up the Parcel for the Second-hand Whistle that I have bought.
(Translated to English)
The old lady in-charge of the Parcel: You again!!!
Me: Hi, good afternoon.
Lady: Let me guess what’s inside this box…a flute (referring to the whistle)
Me: You are right.
Lady: O Boy!..You are addicted to that…YOU ARE GONNA SUMMON SNAKES AGAIN.
Me: hahahahaha
The same line goes over and over again every time I visit to pick up a whistle.
2ND BELIEF
Back when I was on high school about 13 years old where i started on a wooden flute, where I was living with my aunt. I was often told “DO NOT SUMMON EVIL SPIRITS” every time I play.
Recently, whenever I play the whistle, neighbor’s dogs began to howl like wolves. I then heard my mom utter the same line: DO NOT SUMMON EVIL SPIRITS.
Angel: Why do believe on such foolishness?
Mom: Dogs can see evil spirits that is why they howl whenever you play.
Angel: Is it not possible that dogs are musically inclined too?
It is possible that they like the tone that is why they are singing (in a form of Howling) while I am playing.
Mom: How come they don’t do that when you sing and when you play the Piano?
Ok, here’s my theory. You can share this with your postal agent. St Patrick is said to have rid Ireland of snakes - let’s overlook the fact that science says there never were snakes in Ireland. Well, the Irish play a lot of whistle and a lot of flute. Right? If the whistle or flute summoned snakes, that island would now be crawling with snakes. It is not crawling with snakes. Therefore, whistles and flutes do not summon snakes. And even if it was the nefareous intent of the player to summon snakes, they are seemingly ineffective at the task.
How’s that?
Besides, everyone knows that it takes a Pungi to charm the snakes. That’s why I keep some distance from clarinet players. It’s the clarinets you have to watch out for.
Now, ridding villages of rodents and small children may have some connection to the whistle. But it could just as well have been the many colored clothing thing - a fashion faux pas for sure.
Haha Horaay St Paddy …I watched the NatGeo and the Narrator said that snakes are deaf. Not totally deaf, but air borne deaf. The can not hear a sound from air but they can hear or should I say feel the vibration of the ground. Thus they can not hear the whistles/ flute unless you blow it on the ground.

Well, a bagpipe may not summon a good spirit, but it adds more s*x appeal.
IMHO, I find it s*xy, when a guy plays a bagpipe.
Based on observation from different videos of Pipers, I have noticed that their face look so serious with some sort of dedication seen in the glow of their eyes, when they play. Ladies seem to just stare them and somewhat their eyes reflect a mesmerized look.
I plan to study bagpipes as well after working my breath on the low whistles.
