Didn’t know that Walton was making a C.
I have 2 waltons : a brass D which is quite poor and a little black one that plays very good.
I’ll have a look to the waltons C. Is it a brass or nickel one ?
The Feadog C is a good whistle. Waltons C is ok but the tone tube is a little short making the bell note sharp. This can be corrected with a little tape over the end or an O ring pushed in. It is hard to find an o ring the right size without having to cut it then putting it back together with ca glue. There is some neoprene tubing that fits well then cutting it to about a little less than 1/32’'.
I have a Waltons C and thought it was a little weak. It’ gets very breathy and weak in the second register especially. Good whislte but I wanted something stronger (not louder, just a little more focused).
There is an Oak C that was passed back and forth between my cousin and I that was pretty strong.
I have two Generation C’s (red top brass) that are great. They are bugger to make tunable but I’m enjoying them now.
I also love the Feadog C.
The Feadog and Gens were both bold whistles that gave me exactly what I missed in the Waltons.
My favorite C is a combination of the Walton C head (I liked it’s tone better) and a Feadog C tube (much better intonation) the sum is way better than the parts.
I just love this whistle.
If you are tempted by the Walton C, Le Comptoir Irlandais in Paris sells them for about 6 euros (that is where I got mine and my daughter’s).
You can PM me for the address.
As I understand the Generation, Waltons and Feadog are appreciated by you guys.
So, as these are cheapies, I might buy several and experiment to switch heads !
Hydromel 89, I didn’t know le comptoir irlandais. Great news that such a shop exists in Paris.
I hope you mean the Sweetone, which is also made by Clarke. There is the Clarke original in C, which is a smashing good whistle, esp. after you smash the windway.
Just in the interest of increasing the size of the statistical sampling, I just bought two Clarke originals in C. I had really liked my Clarke D’s and hoped the C’s might be similar. Unfortunatly both of them were so badly out of tune with themselves I could not even correct it with any amount of breath control. They would get hung up between octaves before reaching even close to the proper pitch on some notes. I realise that two of them are not a definitive sampling but these two were pretty bad…
