What is this fragment?

I have a melody running around in my head, and I don’t know what it is. It sounds as if it should be a pleasant tune for the whistle. I think it has classical origin, but I remember it most as being worked into a track on The Doors ‘American Prayer’ (track 18 - Feast of freinds). I would have posted a You Tube link to point out the tune, but copyright laws prevent it.
There is a rather trying overdub at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvfmnt5gJJQ - tune fragment starts at ~51 seconds.

I have done a (poor) abc transcription that might nudge one of you. The pitches in the are what I am playing, but the durations/rhythm are poorly represented.

If the abc doesnt work, I may have to record a snatch - and you dont want that now guys…

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

It’s apparently the Adagio in G minor by Tomaso Albinoni. Check the Related Video links for the YouTube clip you posted.

Doh…

I never thought to look in related. I feel stupid now.

Thanks

Actually, and with all respect to MtGuru, I believe it is Adagio in D minor by Albinoni. Here’s a YouTube link.

The only reason I know it is because it figured prominently in the sound track for the movie “Rollerball” which I liked primarily for the sound track.

Well, now that I have listened to the G minor your tune sounds a lot like it, too. So guess the safe thing is go with the Guru. Sorry.

RVC

Listening to them both, I can see the reason for confusion. When the Dm started I began to wonder if they were the same tune (one transposed).

Thanks anyway

Oh, I could be very wrong on this. I just listened quickly to the related clips and read the comments.

FWIW I think you were right - I know the Doors track well, and the Gm peice was so very similar that Jim Morrison must have used it to base the track on. The other has a very similar descending melody line, but the bits around that melody are very different from the Doors track.

BTW what whistle do I use for Gm? F maybe?. If so can I transpose the recording from F->D with Audacity and expect to be able to lay along with a D whistle?

TIA
