Well,well..After hearing that Davey Stephenson Holly chanter on Friday night(at least half a dozen times,and again on saturday morning!)I FINALLY made a decision to ‘jump in the deep-end’ and order a practice set from Davey!! I’ve been admiring Davey’s work shown on his website for several months,read peoples postings,and e-mailed several pipers before now,But the SOUND of that holly chanter is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Someone said it sounded like Blackwood-I don’t know enough to comment,whether it is the HOLLY wood,or just the design of this chanter that produces this particular sound-I just know it sounds right for me! I’ve gone for an angled neck chanter(spent some time checking album covers-even found Leo Rowsome playing angled rather than what I thought was ‘traditional’ swan necked chanter)stitched bellows in Ash.Davey has promised to send a forgiving reed,seeing as I’m a Newbie! Approx. waiting time is 3 months.Seems like I’ve took the first step on a long road!
