Well I`ve been interested in the flute for years so I finally got off my butt and went to look at them this week. I found an Armstrong 104 model used for $200 from a music store. Is this a good model and price for a beginner? Also any tips would help Thanks.
That is a Boehm system flute, which is the standard for orchestral, and most modern music. However, the older forms of flute, without the extensive keywork, are popular in Irish and folk music, due to the finger ornamentations which are not practical with a Boehm flute. If a Boehm flute is what you’re wanting, this is probably a good flute to start on.
But if you are interested in playing traditional folk musics, you might be better served with a wooden keyless flute, or a reproduction of a Pratten or Rudall & Rose.

Armstrong made decent student models in large quantities.
The important thing is its condition. Hopefully, you had someone dependable check it over.
A flute teacher is the best way start learning flute.
Good luck.

I bought a brand new Gemeinhardt student flute on e-bay for about $200.00, so if you want to start flute, you might check there first. I had no trouble selling it when I decided to continue with a better flute.
