Wedding Music.

Hi all,we are getting married in Brazil this April and are looking for some traditional Irish wedding music for myself and my fiancee to walk down the aisle to.
The music would have to be on CD and readily available, one piece that I have looked at and quite like is Marcus Hernons Air played by Donna Germano which is in the slow airs section on Clips & Snips,so something along those lines would be great, thanks.

Any suggestions anyone??

You know you want to whip a whistle out of your breast pocket and just play a song yourself. Go for it.

We had live music, but most of what we used could be found on CD’s. The lads and lasses walked in to an Irish set on the guitar and fiddle. Just about anything happy/bouncy would do for that. I believe they played Off to California (appropriate, since that’s where we honeymooned, though Mrs. Badger didn’t know that at the time), Dusty Windowsill, and Kesh.

The bride entered to “O My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose,” again on fiddle and guitar. Lovely. I’ll never forget the way she looked when she entered, her dark hair flowing over her white gown beaded with tiny pearls, smiling shyly up the aisle at me, with that lovely music playing…ah, I’m gittin’ choked up thinkin’ about it. Ahem… Many good recordings available of that song, with and without words.

For the recessional my highland piper friend played the Duncan Johnstone Set, similar to the set on The Best of Ossian. Most triumphant sounding!

That last CD, by the way, is a must have if you are even remotely inclined toward Scottish trad. The first track is called “St. Kilda Wedding” and would work brilliantly for a processional or recessional.

Hope that helps a bit.

Just got to thinking about the last wedding I played in. We did O’Sullivan’s March for the processional (good recording on “the Best of the Chieftains,” another must-have album), Carrickfergus for the bridal entry (many fine recordings available–sounds absolutely lovely on a high D whistle), and a set of unremembered happy jigs for the recessional.

I can never decide which is more appropriate at these moments, “Haste to the Wedding” or “Saddle the Pony”.

Thanks for the suggestions guys,I will have to have a listen to them…cheers.

My favourite version of the song is the one sung by the late Davy Steele on the Lynn Records Burns Collection series of CDs

For something different you could try La Ciaconna Rossa from the CD O’Stravaganza by Hughes de Courson (this will get me pelters from the trad mafia).

How about those 6/8 marches? Highland March from Oscar & Malvina is one of my favorite pieces, and sounds good played slowly or fast, as for the march in or out.

One of these days I’m going to learn not to drink milk while reading posts!

I recently did a wedding. We did Pachabel’s Canon for the processional I played the slow, plodding part on the harp…the same eight notes over and over… (snore!) while my girls did fancy, harmonious baroque shinnanigans on their fiddles. It sounded lovely of course but I was dying to break into Morrison’s Jig. Never the less, I refrained.

Shortly after the gig I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdxkVQy7QLM and nearly laughed my head off.

Doc–thanks for sharing that. My wife and I just spent an hour watching his videos and laughing. Did you see the “Children’s song”?

Pachelbel canon in D–the Danny Boy of Classical music…only worse.
