Amen, Bloomie.

I don’t know a single person who disagrees that water freezes at 32Āŗ F.

Well, around here water freezes at 0 degrees-so there.

Steve

Yes, but you’re not single.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Funny comment coming from you Cran, after the divorced people parody.

I don’t understand what I said. Doesn’t water freeze at 32Āŗ?

I know I probably made myself look stupider, but I don’t know how or what I said (which must make me look really stupid!).

No, water freezes because of U.S. Corporations, dammit!

No Cran, Of course water does freeze at 32…it’s just that I interpreted your post to mean you didn’t get that the cartoon was using the freezing temp of water as an allegory for evolution & whatever other scientific theories fundamentalists like to dispute.

Oooooh.

there there.

I thought it might have something to do with Celcius temperatures, but I wasn’t getting it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I freeze at any degree of the mention of commitment.

I’m not an apologist for either side of this controversy, but I think it is rather arrogant for either side to claim they know how life began. When it gets down to it, the matter is faith on either side. Either the small changes we see watching animals today have continued for an almost unimaginably long time, going back to single molecules dancing about and happening to give us what we see, or as the intelligent design folks would have it, the molecules were dancing because they were being pushed. Either way, it is impossible to prove, and I think they’d be better off studying what we can see. But then, I’m a chemist, not a biologist, and I’d like to think my science is more practical.

It’s also more mathematical, which is why a lot of people are biologists.

I agree with that. I’m not fully evolutionist (although I used to be) and I’m not fully creationist, but I do understand that even ā€œhard lineā€ scientists accept A LOT on faith alone, even if they have qualms about admitting it.

Edited because my skills grammar sux.

Exactly. Biology is more of the literature major for science geeks type of thing. Apologies to any biologists out there.

I don’t think an apology is needed–another way to describe the difference is to say that Bio might be more right-brained and chem & physics might suit left-brainers better.

They both seem ā€œleft brainā€ to me.
