I guess it comes as no surprise that I’m not one who supposes that dinosaurs evolved from birds, or vice versa, but this recent news story made me think… man… I’m glad there’s no flock o’ tyrannosauri flying through the air… busting power lines and destroying things with mega droppings, and preying on… everything!
I’m still curious, however. While I believe that the disappearance of the Dinosaur wasn’t because they all evolved into winging behemouths, the evolutionary record demonstrates that some animals were well along their way toward feathered flight, and recent fossil discovies of animals previously thought to be scaly have shown clear images of feathered aspects to their fossized anatomies…all in all, pretty cool stuff…that is, if you’re in to paleontology.
For a long time, I just accepted the theory of evolution as gospel (pun intended), but now I’m actually not so sure I believe in it, at least not in the same way.
All I got from the link was a Circuit City ad banner touting the return of the five hour special. Nice to know. I imagine I’ll have to remember that.
As for feathered dinosauri, I recall the first fossil of one discovered in China. Totally set me into a new paradigm; I can’t look at a bird now without musing about their lineage --theorised, to be sure-- or saying, “More roast dinosaur?” at Thanksgiving. Even more interesting is that the line that gave rise to avians did indeed include not only T. Rex, but other predatory tough customers such as velociraptors, all of which had skeletal structures very much in common with modern birds.
