visit to the music store

So, since I’m chronically ill (and also chronically busy!), I have no more musical instruments at all. You may let your jaws drop in disbelievment now.

At any rate, I thought I might get a whistle, just for “old times sake.” I went to the nearest music store (actually a dulcimer store, I think) and looked around. I found the whistle section. They had two brands of whistles. A plain old Clarke was $15, and a Sweetone was something like $10.50 :boggle:

I haven’t bought a whistle in a long time, so mabey they went way up in price in the year or so it’s been? About three years ago when I bought my Clarke, it was $6.

I then went to a gift shop, and I found cheap recorders for $2, but I don’t like blasphemy much so I didn’t get one. I think I might save up and buy one of those cheap Russian lap harps and see how that works.

/end randomness

Get the Sweetone; the price isn’t that far out of range.

The whisteshop still has sweetones for about $5.00 for unpainted, and $6.00 or painted, but you’d end up paying closer to 10 after shipping and handling.

I was pleasantly surprised by the $5.30 Walton’s Little Black Whistle I bought at gaeliccrossings.com (plus a couple bucks for 1st class USPS shipping).

Tone is as good, the voice tighter, but not as round (the conical grooviness) as my Sweetone. It’s a great value.

I’ll send you a whistle, Cran. Please save your money.

Best wishes,
Jerry
