Unknown English Flute, Maker Wanted

Hi Fluters,

here´s an old unmarked english flute, any idea about the maker?

Overall length 65,7 cm
Sounding length 57,8cm
C# to D# 25,6cm

Plays at 440Hz with the Tunigslide out 12-13mm.
Unusual Tonehole design for the keyed holes.

Can we lift the secret?

Check the underside of the keys for any marks. The eccentric touch on the Eb key is reminiscent of keys seen on Metzlers, presumed to be the work of Alexander Liddle.

If you find any, this page might help:

If the mark is A.L, see also:

The key holes are quite common. They were for card-backed pads but are sometimes confused with the deeper, rounder holes used for “elastic ball” pads (modernly termed purse-pads). The cups on the keys are also flatter than the half-round cups for elastic ball pads.

Hello! First post to the board in a very long time!

This looks a lot like my flute, marked Metzler & Co, with AL stamped under the keys. Mine is just about exactly the same dimensions too, the C#-Eb distance is identical. I’ll try to post a pic later, but the wood looks very similar to mine as well, very dark, but doesn’t quite look like cocus. Also, the rings are a pretty close match.

Thank you guys!

Jepp, long time not posted, but a regular peeker…

Forgot to mention, the flute is made of (darkened) cocus and nickel silver, but no marks at the keys.
The complete F block has been repaired very professional with the same wood, so perhaps this is an unmarked second-rate twin sister of Prairiewhistler`s Metzler?
Would love to see the pic,
Beo

Here’s a few pics of my Metzler, for comparison.

Thanks Kyle!

very pretty flute, but some significant differences in the key and (C#+C) block design.
However i like to believe mine is a Metzler flute
Have to do some more work to bring it to a good playing condition…
