Unexpectedly fun jam session

Hi, Just wondered what the strangest jam session you have ever been involved in was.

Someone once played The Lion Sleeps Tonight in the middle of Willajord so after we played Willajord the other night I finished of with a piercing 'In the jungle, the quiet jungle, the lion sleeps tonight," which sent about 20 musicians off on a bizarre jam session that lasted about 12 minutes. Priceless.

Anyone got any other good suggestions of off beat tunes which will get a mixed group laughing and playing?

One of my favorite skits from the Tracy Ullman Show. And my new fife from Williamsburg VA happened to be in the right key.

After a few pints, we’ve been known to break into American Pie, which gets the whole pub singing.

I haven’t been in a “jam session” since I was in school, 35 years ago.

Is this a “pavement/sidewalk” thing? In which case, what does it mean? Or does it mean what it used to, and we just don’t have them here in the UK any more?

They still happen. Not always in obvious places. Now and then a Folk-club night will morph into a jam session, but that’s rare.
You tend to get jam-sessions around the campfire at Druid camp, or similar.

[Now he’s going to ask “What is Druid Camp”…]

… um … yes …

What’s “Druid Camp”?

Like “Scout Camp” only with Druids instead of Scouts.

Ah. That would be why I haven’t been to any “jam sessions” then … Druids not being so thick on the ground around here …

In concert, our band used to insert snippets of the Gilligan’s Island theme into Cooley’s Reel. The audience loved it. However, it got to be ‘expected’, so we stopped the practice…
Cheers.
