Hi, Just wondered what the strangest jam session you have ever been involved in was.
Someone once played The Lion Sleeps Tonight in the middle of Willajord so after we played Willajord the other night I finished of with a piercing 'In the jungle, the quiet jungle, the lion sleeps tonight," which sent about 20 musicians off on a bizarre jam session that lasted about 12 minutes. Priceless.
Anyone got any other good suggestions of off beat tunes which will get a mixed group laughing and playing?
I haven’t been in a “jam session” since I was in school, 35 years ago.
Is this a “pavement/sidewalk” thing? In which case, what does it mean? Or does it mean what it used to, and we just don’t have them here in the UK any more?
They still happen. Not always in obvious places. Now and then a Folk-club night will morph into a jam session, but that’s rare.
You tend to get jam-sessions around the campfire at Druid camp, or similar.
In concert, our band used to insert snippets of the Gilligan’s Island theme into Cooley’s Reel. The audience loved it. However, it got to be ‘expected’, so we stopped the practice…
Cheers.
