under the radar pipemakers

There seems to be pipemakers all over the place. This maker Mark Donohoe was so under the radar that I only learned about him a couple of weeks ago and he only lives a few miles from me.

That’s a very nice looking 1/2 set. How’s the tone off 'em?

Does he have a website?

His practice set was a featured review last year in the NPU newsletter. Favorable review. I have one of his bellows and is very high quality. He appears to use similar methods as Froment.

His address and number are:

Tell him Neil from New York sent ya!

He has freely consulted with Alain for quite a while.

I only heard the half set played once but it sounded very nice .A very full sound from the drones in fact what struck first was the amount of sound that came from the drones ,a big soft hum ! and a very sweet sounding chanter that blended very nicely !

By the way his e-mail address is markdpipes@eircom.net

ps the standard of the workmanship is amazing .

It may be the photograph but the finish on the drones looks very dark - almost bronze. Looks great, whatever it is.

Joe Kennedy is another pipemaker that flew under the radar for a while. His secret’s out now, thankfully.

Indeed, the work looks quite nice! Any soundclips??
