UK Taste Test

Did anyone eat this? Comments?

The article said that this was only sold in the UK. There was other interesting options in other countries too.

That looks absolutely disgusting. I’ve never seen anything quite that revolting served here in the UK in my life, and you wouldn’t catch me within a hundred miles of it if it was.

Other than that, I’m fairly neutral about it.

That was about my exact thought when I saw it.

Hey, you folks are creeping out the people who may like this pizza. I wanna hear about the mustard drizzle.

Can we refer to it as a “condom-crust pizza”?

BTW, is it a continuous hotdog around the circumference of the Pi ?

If so, you get even more if the pi are squared.*

  • (2r)^2 = 4r^2 > πr^2

Never seen it. Wouldn’t touch it. Certainly wouldn’t put it near my mouth. :poke:

How backward of me in my lack of empathy and compassion. Doesn’t change my opinion that it’s a clowncar masquerading as a pizza.

Gack.

How’s that?

You know, there are some perfect foods that shouldn’t be messed with. (#1 is potato chips – they shouldn’t have ranch or barbecue or faux cheddar-cheese powder on them. Period) Pizza is one of those foods. How can you improve on a nicely stretched and risen crust with a simple tomato-based middle, a cheesy top, and toppings from a selection of a dozen or two possibilities.

I realize that there are well-entrenched camps when it comes to pizza. I’m originally from the Pizza Triangle in Connecticut, where one could get Italian, Greek, Sicilian, New York, Chicago, round, square, rectangular. . . in my hometown of about 8000 people. So I like many different kinds of sauces, from the pretty-much straight tomato paste of New York style to sliced tomatoes (Neapolitan, maybe?) to the spicier sauces. I love my mother’s pizza with cheddar cheese (that’s really kind of messing with pizza), don’t like straight part-skim mozzarella, love a good strong provolone.

But the whole stuffed-crust thing is taking a few too many liberties, and hot dog-stuffed crust is just plain gross. It’s kind of the worst of both worlds, the collision of pizza and corn dogs. And I don’t think there are very damn many foods that would benefit from a collision with corn dogs.

Edited to add my wife’s wisdom: imagine a 4-year-old’s birthday party.

An alarming prospect as well. Ignoring the debate over its proper condiment, the pristine, classic corn dog - evil as we all know it is - is also among those perfected foods sufficient unto themselves just the way they were originally conceived. I do make one exception to that, though: the mini corn dog bites you can get as bar food. That is a solid step in the right direction when you’re going over to the Dark Side with eyes wide open.

Well this begs the question: Thin crust, standard crust, deep dish or hotdog crust?

I personally prefer either standard or deep dish depending on the mood I’m in.

I know I’ve asked this before, but remind me … what’s a “corn dog”?

A hot dog, dipped in basically a cornbread batter, and then deep fried.

And don’t even attempt the pre-deep fried, then microwaved version of the corndog. I think that’s where some of their poor reputation is obtained. Pre-deep fried, then oven baked is OK but you have to know what you’re doing.

I suspected this hot dog pizza was heinous. That’s why I asked.

I don’t microwave. I don’t own a microwave. Or a dog. Or corn.

Once again I beckon you to visit the States, Ben. Remember how I’ve always said we’ll show you the world’s largest ball of twine and feed you peanut butter? Add corn dogs to the list.

“We WILL dog your corn.” :smiling_imp:
Don’t do it, Ben! You’ll be wearing your baseball cap backwards and your trousers around your knees before you know it! And swelp me if they ain’t planning to take yez to NASCAR!

On behalf of all US citizens I thank you for the compliment, IB, but I really do think you’re overestimating our appeal.

Generally I do not see that fashion around here between Labor Day and Easter. Around here people are pretty fashion sensitive and currently going through a poofy hat and coat craze. I’m sure in a few months this too will pass.
