Pardon me if this has been covered before. After all, the article below is two years old today!

Is M&E still selling tweaked Pakistani flutes? I haven’t seen any mention of that in their literature. I’m not opposed, though…sounds like a good idea!
This appears to be “M and E” not “M&E”…never heard of them before…although I think people have tweaked some of the better Pakisani flutes in the past (and I’m playing with mine at the moment)
…it’s a crap shoot at best…
I don’t know, but I think it’s one and the same company. He makes reference to ‘Michael’ doing the tweaking, and I assume that’s Michael Cronnolly. And he also mention that it’s done in Ireland.
Well it definetly links to Cronnolly’s site(but that may have been by the publisher of the article)…but there is no reference in return…I couldn’t find where he references Michael doing the tweaking…best bet is just to call M&E…real nice people to deal with…(I love my M&E R&R)
Edit: Ok..found him…http://www.irishflutes.net/mef/Tutor.htm
Just send an email to Michael, I am sure he will answer your questions.
BTW, pay close attention to the webmaster of the M&E site. His name happens to be Mark Polczynski. Decide for yourself.
ID10T provided a link to this very same discussion. Michael says he makes all his own flutes, and that’s good enough for me and I’d highly doubt anyone would get a different answer.

I certainly wasn’t looking to cast any criticism toward M&E or Michael Cronnolly, as I’ve heard nothing but good things about his flutes. If M&E were using Pakistani originals today, I’m sure they’d be open about it.
My point was more to the effect of, ‘Hey, why not?’. The eBay flutes are lovely looking things, made (often) from top-grade materials. They’re just not reliable, or so I hear. Is it possible to tweak them into great players? Is it practical? Or is a bad flute beyond redemption by definition?
I just wondered if the flutemakers among us had opinions on this subject.
I’d be willing to bet most are tweakable by capable hands. Rod Cameron used to do this in the past, but I don’t believe he offers them anymore.

I’m guessing it’s more like half of them (I’ve got two and one will definetly never make it) I doubt it would ever be economic however, just waiting for the cracks to age out would probably put one out of business …
I’ll report back if the tweaking ever gets finished…slow going…
