In response to another thread and out of interest lately what are some nice tunes using the footjoint keys:
I think this type of thread has been done but let’s do it again
Here is a nice one I’m working on from this website: http://www.reavy.us/Reavycom.abc

N:the gypsy girl represents those strange

N:such devilish wild appeal, unlike any

N:see the likes of them in any other setting

can be played an octave up as well
I have one eight key where the keys work perfectly and seal every time the other one takes thinking about
and too much pressure so octave up
I don’t play flute anymore, but when I did I liked to use the low C# key for a gracenote on bottom D on the tune Bunker Hill, on that bottom D near the beginning of the tune that fiddlers usually “scoop” up to:
cA | GE3~ (C#)D4 |
It gave a fair approximation of the effect that the fiddlers got.
It’s one of the things I miss on the Low D whistle.
Another Low C# tune was that Kevin Burke jig in A Major that began
Fisherman’s Island is another nice Ed Reavy tune that goes down to C#.
Music in the Glen: sometimes I play the CB in the A part up an octave, sometimes I stay low on the C and just go high on the B (all the while wishing these things had a B foot joint). But jumping an octave on just the one note is a little jarring to me, somehow.
Does anyone know anything about the tune Chris Norman plays called “The Iron Ring”? He uses the foot joint keys in it. Anyone know where a recording is available? See here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVl-0VkrbHc
Here’s a few I play and there’s others that I can’t currently think of.
Morgan Magan
Planxty Irwin (in D)
The Fairy Queen (in C)
The Road to Skye
Rachel Rae / Danny Meehan’s
Angus Ronald’s Big Tune
I also use the C# key sometimes in the 2nd octave for d-c#-d
Cheers

A Swedish tune (?) that I like is “Metsakukkia” or “Flower of the Forest.” It is in the key of Bb. Don’t know who wrote it; however, it’s a lovely tune. Makes good use of Eb.
