TUB PRACTICE!

I’ve discovered a most pleasing method of practising new tunes in a most pleasant environment. Soaking in a bath tub is the venue and keeping the sheet music both dry and at eye level were the problems that I’ve recently had to solved.

DRY IDEA: I usually print out the music notation for a tune that I’m working on and cut the standard sheet of paper down to fit a 6 1/2" X 9" rigid plastic page protector. I then get out the old trusty Sticky Tak and pinch off a small piece to attach the music to the wall near the tub faucet.

Sink down into the sudsy water and play away!
You can’t beat the acoustics in there!!!

If you figure out a way I can play in the shower, let me know.

I play in the bathroom with the shower running and it really makes all my whistles sound great. You can take the scratchiest/screechiest sounding whistle and play it with the shower running and the “white noise” from the shower smooths out all the rough edges.

I have a theory that this also happens to some extent when playing in a session with other instruments. A whistle may sound too piercing/screechy when playing alone, but may be fine in a session.

I only take sponge baths. Does anyone know any tunes that can be played with one hand only?

No problems when I take sitz baths, tho!

To hell with the tub or the shower, the acoustics in the john are great no matter where you’re sitting…must be all that ceranic tile!

I guess it beats the heck out of singing.

Do you think one of those plastic tennis visors would keep the water out of the fipple hole?

I play Susatos in the bath tub.

Just remember never to play your electric whistles in the tub!
